Ohio National Guard's unpunished Kent State homicides on this date 50 years ago raised my consciousness as a 13 year old. My dad appeared on NBC Today Show with Joe Garragiola, as one of several WWII 82nd ABN DIVN paratroopers, during their annual convention in NYC. Mom and I watched one morning before school as the NBC host tried to bait the vets into condemning anti-war protesters. Dad proudly proclaimed, "MY SON IS ANTI-WAR." (He was awarded three Bronze Stars for three combat jumps in North Africa, Sicily and Normandy, and the South Jersey Chapter of the 82nd ABN DIVN ASSN. INC. is the "Edward A. Slavin Chapter."
